Q: A man walks into a bar and knock himself out... why?

Edvarcl Heng  |  Nov 25, 2005

I may be wrong, but from the accounts of some Macintosh devotees, if there're two vital destinations that an Apple cultist has to pay homage at, it would be the Apple shop in SoHo, New York, and MacWorld. But that takes oodles of greenbacks, and after footing the bill for a 30-inch cinematic Apple monitor, there's probably only just enough left to top up the ez-link card.

Apple connoisseurs on a shoestring budget can rest easy, however, since a new Apple center has opened at the Cineleisure complex in Singapore. The Club 21 ishop. Local fashion powerhouse + coolest tech brand on the planet. Geddit? Its free entry and it does not have a discriminatory policy against PC users. But expect plenty of fruity evangelists, gorgeous Apple ware (Bottega Veneta) and dedicated after-sales support. Hell, there's even a coffee bar. Now you can have your Apple and drink it too.

Don't play that CD! The boss may be watching

Edvarcl Heng  |  Nov 15, 2005

Unlike my aunts who like their nest eggs within arms reach... in a cookie tin under the bed, sound slumber to me is knowing that there isn't a hacker sniggering at my bank balance via a certain rootkit right now. Interestingly, Sony has its own bank. Wonder what the IT policy on CDs is like over there. More info here

Unrooting the Sony issue

Edvarcl Heng  |  Nov 15, 2005

Sony say it is not making the affected CDs anymore, not because it finally admits that it ain't right to secretly install rootkits, but as a precautionary measure. Hello? More info here

EMI: We don't use rootkits

Edvarcl Heng  |  Nov 14, 2005

It's not exactly what I'd call blame pushing, but EMI sure does a swell job of getting the fine art of finger-pointing down pat. "Our hands ain't red, it's them, it's them! They are the evil ones! We don't control your computer... only your music. More info here

Stereo Squealers

Juniper Foo  |  Nov 14, 2005

Unbelievably, there's a whole site dedicated to just selling Stereo Squealers, battery-operated piggy speakers that will oink out your fav tunes from just about any multimedia device, be it your iPod or laptop. To boost the Kawaii factor, the tail even doubles as a volume control which you wriggle to adjust. Not to be swineheaded here, but can these squealers deliver on the sonic goods? And which will hog the limelight when it comes to iPig vs. the iDog? Enough with the piggy references already. Oink.
